Anuga 2019: Top Thai sweetcorn cannery extends domestic portfolio

Thai canned sweetcorn company Sunsweet is launching new sweetcorn products and targeting the retail domestic market, IEG Vu learned at Anuga.
The new products consist of sweet potato and pumpkin pieces, vacuum packed in retail sizes and grown from Japanese seed in Thailand.
The sweet potato is presented whole, although slightly cut on the surface to show its orange colour: “Customers want to know what they are eating and its colour, as you can find different varieties of this species. We believe this is the most popular,” the company’s director of sales and marketing Kovit Sitthiyos said. The company currently supplies 7Eleven stores with 18,000 units per day.
The pumpkin pieces and chunks, also in vacuum packs, will be available in 7Eleven stores from next month.
Meantime, Sunsweet’s daily supply of corn in the hob vacuum packed to 7Eleven is 15,000 units per day.
“Our new product trends and launches depend on customers’ needs, and as soon as they requested these two new products, we decided to support it immediately,” said Sitthiyos, who added that the company’s target for next year is to increase its sweetcorn raw material volumes for processing to as much as 1.4 million tonnes.
