Commission finalises simplification measures for wine and spirit drinks

The European Commission (EC) has adopted new rules to simplify and homogenise EU wine making practices, in a final step to align EU legislation on alcoholic drinks with the Lisbon Treaty.

The new rules for wine, which are laid out in an implementing regulation and delegated regulation, are intended to simplify the requirements for wine-making and increasing the consistency of oenological practices in the EU with both the international code of oenological practices and the international oenological codex of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine.
