Latest orange forecast flags up larger Brazilian harvest

First preliminary forecast for new orange crop in São Paulo shows that growers will harvest 331.3 million boxes, 3.6% higher than the 319.62 mln boxes harvested in the state in the previous season.

The forecast issued by Brazil’s Agricultural Economics Institute (IEA) adds that the acreage under the crop is set to rise to 457,700 hectares, up from 455,300 ha in the previous season. Average yields are expected to increase to 31.34 tonnes per ha, up 3.3% on the 30.34 tonnes/ha from the previous season.
