African Coca-Cola bottler opts out of local currency

Zimbabwe's largest beverages and alcohol manufacturer has been forced to charge consumers in US dollars, with effect from tomorrow (January 4).

Delta Beverages, which bottles Coca-Cola soft drinks in the country, nearly closed its plant last month. It had hoped that it would be able to obtain the foreign exchange it needs for essential raw materials, but the Zimbabwean dollar and the ‘bond’ notes that followed it are effectively worthless.
