Podcast: Biopesticides & their growing role in food crop production

Biopesticides are becoming an increasingly popular choice for growers of a number of food crops from fruits & vegetables to cocoa to grains & oilseeds.

With a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 16-17%, biopesticides is currently the fastest growing segment in the crop protection sector, with sales estimated at USD3 billion today compared with USD0.6bn in 2003.

North America and Europe combined account for two-thirds of the total market, but Latin America is expected to be the fastest growing region for sales in the period to 2025, overtaking Asia Pacific.

With the drive to produce more food for a growing population, without causing damage to the environment at the same time, an increasingly pressing concern, the future looks bright for the biopesticide industry. But there are still challenges to be overcome, not least with a fragmented regulatory framework around the world.

In this podcast, Dr Alan Bullion, head of special reports for Agribusiness Intelligence, discusses the latest report produced by IEG Vu’s sister website Agrow, titled: “Global Biopesticide Regulations 2018”.
