Codex plans to tighten lead limit in grape juice and tomato paste

IEG Vu has been informed that the lead limit in single strength grape juice (grape must) is to be reduced from its present limit of 50 parts per billion (PPB) to 40 ppb. Grape juice is just one of a number of food and beverage products under review at an ongoing meeting of the Codex committee in Utrecht, the Netherlands, together with canned vegetables and fish.
