The lawmakers’ plea comes on the heels of a recent push from Rep. Doug Collins to increase line speeds from 140 birds per minute (bpm) to 175 bpm. He sent a letter to Perdue in May that argued poultry producers in South America, Asia, Canada and Europe are safely operating at line speeds faster than American facilities and this is a "significant disadvantage to northeast Georgia's poultry production."
