Railroads Way Behind on Grain Shipments

The two largest railroads hauling grain in the Midwest are running thousands of railcar loads behind their normal rate because of this spring’s flooding. BNSF Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway have told the Surface Transportation Board (STB) they could have as many as 20,000 carloads backed up, leading to fears that the carriers could still be backed up when the corn and soybean harvest starts.
