China Bans California Poultry Products, Citing Fears Involving Bird Flu

China's government, following recent similar action in Taiwan and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), has banned poultry and related products shipped from California after a strain of low-pathogenic avian influence not harmful to humans was detected in Stanislaus County among a quail flock there in mid-April, the country's Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said in a joint announcement with the Ministry of Agriculture appearing on the AQSIQ website. While Taiwan also put a ban on all poultry products from California in late April, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region imposed a ban on poultry products specifically from Stanislaus County on April 24.
