Next step for water resources bill: conference. The House on Oct. 23 decisively approved the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (HR 3080) by a vote of 417-3. The only nays in the House came from Republicans Walter B. Jones of North Carolina and Jim Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin, plus Democrat Collin Peterson of Minnesota. The Senate passed its version (S 601) on May 15 by a vote of 83-14. to reauthorize Army Corps of Engineers water projects. Next step is for the conference committee to be named. If enacted, as expected, the measure would be the first water resources development bill enacted since 2007.
