Cattle prices still falling; exports down 16% in July
The live cattle market has been very quiet in recent days. Between July 27 and August 3, the ESALQ / BM&F Bovespa cattle indicator fell by 1.6%, closing at R$ 151.82 on Wednesday, August 3. Cepea says the supply of cattle for slaughter is low, limiting bigger fall. On the wholesale market in São Paulo, the slide in prices continues. From July 27 to August 3, hindquarter cuts fell by 2.5%, closing at R$ 10.20 / kg on Wednesday, August 3. But forequarter cuts gained 0.36%, to R$ 8.27 / kg on Wednesday. The average rib price fell by 1.3%, to R$ 8.24 / kg on August 3. Carcasses fell by 1.4%, closing at R$ 9.19 / kg. The volume of fresh beef exported also fell in July. Volume was 82,200 tons, down by 15.6% on June and the lowest volume since March 2015. However, in the year to July volume totaled 655,600 tons, 12.8% up on the same period in 2015.
