Chilled and frozen chicken prices up
After falling in March and April in most regions monitored by Cepea, chilled and frozen chicken price are up in the beginning of May. Cepea say that besides being the beginning of the month, when domestic demand typically increases, chicken meat is competitive as a substitute for beef and pork. On the supply side, strong exports have helped mop up domestic availability. Brazil's fresh chicken exports remained strong in April at 378,670 tons, 2.7% up on the previous month and 25.7% up on April 2015. Exports in the first four months of 2016 were the largest since 2003, the beginning of the SECEX series.
