Brazil is the world's largest exporter of poultry to South Africa
Brazil is now the world's largest supplier of poultry meat to South Africa. In 2015 it imported US $ 365.7 worth of this protein, of which US$ 132.8 million was from Brazil (36.3%).
According to MAPA, in 2014, Brazil's market share was 31.5%, worth US$ 374.6 million.
Brazil achieved this position even with an increase in import tariffs on whole chicken, from 27% to 82%, and Brazilian cuts from 5% to 12%, applied by the South African government from 2013 as an anti-dumping measure.
Since 2010, MAPA has had an agricultural attaché in South Africa. "The presence of a Brazilian specialist intensifies negotiations for new markets and contributes to the study of strategic information, essential for the promotion of exports," says the secretary of International Relations at MAPA, Tatiana Palermo.
