Chicken meat production totaled 13.146 million tons in 2015

Brazil produced 13.146 million tons of chicken meat last year, 3.58% more than in 2014.

Brazil has consolidated its position as the second-largest chicken meat producer in the world, surpassing China - which last year produced 13.025 million tons, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

"Domestically, booming trade has been balanced with demand, while exports set a record, exceeding 4.3 million tons. Despite the economic crisis, the production and export chains did well last year," says the vice president of poultry at the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), Ricardo Santin.

Per capita consumption of chicken averaged 43.25 kilograms in 2015, 1.1% up on the previous year.
