Chicken: fall in April and exports are down
Even though they remained within the average recorded in the previous eight months (August / 14 to March / 15), Brazilian exports of chicken in April fell sharply on the previous month, and even more so on April 2014.
The shorter month, with Easter and Tiradentes holidays, impacted results, with exports down by 3.8% to almost 330,000 tons.
After closing the first quarter slightly up on the same period last year, at the end of April chicken meat exports had fallen again, by 1.5%.
For now, however, this does not affect the last twelve months, which remains up by 1.68% year on year.
Considering recent observation by the FAO that in the first four months of the year meat exports are usually weak and tending to recover in the rest of the year, the prevailing expectation is that the negative results will quickly be reversed. The initial results in May suggest this too be the case.
