Beef revenue to rise by 10%
The Gross Value of Production (GVP) for meat will sustain the growth of Brazilian farming in 2015. According to estimates from the Strategic Management Office at the Ministry of Agriculture (AGE / MAPA), released on Tuesday, beef revenue will rise by 10.4% in 2015.
The other meat segments, in turn, should also see good results: pork revenue will be up by 3.8% and chicken revenue will be up by 3.5%.
In the year, however, the GVP for Brazilian farming output will be R$ 477.5 billion, only 1.1% up on 2014. Of this total, R$ 292.9 billion will be from crops and R$ 184.6 billion from livestock.
This low growth is due to the challenging period faced by sugarcane, corn, cotton and tomatoes. "As they have performed badly, GVP is less than it could be," said the coordinator-general of Strategic Planning at MAPA, José Garcia Gasques.
