Iraq reopens market for Brazilian beef
Iraq has reopened its market for processed beef from Brazil. The information was released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"The resolution by the Iraq health authority will allow the normalization of exports of the product to that market, broken off after an atypical case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy confirmed in Mato Grosso, in April 2014," the statement from the Ministry says.
Brazil shipped 79 tons of beef to the country prior to the suspension, worth US$ 173,700. The data are from the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association (Abiec).
Also according to Abiec, in 2013 sales to the Iraq market totaled 306 tons, worth US $ 1.104 million. Compared to 2012, this was 95% down in both volume and in revenue.
