Brazil promotes mission to Egypt to lift embargoes
The Ministry of Agriculture is organizing a mission to Egypt and Iran next weekend. Neri Geller will lead a delegation of government representatives, exporters of beef and chicken, sector representatives, and halal certifiers.
One of the main goals for the trip is to end of the embargo on imports of beef from Mato Grosso. The two countries suspended imports this year after the identification of the causative agent of bovine spongiform encephalopathy - mad cow disease - in an animal in the state.
The mission is part of the market maintenance work done by MAPA. The Secretary of International Affairs at MAPA, Marcelo Junqueira, says Brazil is the largest exporter of beef and chicken in the world and is able to supply its traditional partners even with new markets being taken on.
