Minister urges caution on Russia
After two weeks of excitement in the meat industry and the Brazilian government over Russia's decision to authorize imports from 91 meat and dairy units in Brazil, now more cautious tone has been adopted. In an interview with Valor Econômico newspaper, the Minister of Agriculture, Neri Geller, says that now is not the time to talk about exports or euphoria - as other sources have been warning behind the scenes.
"What we need to be very clear about is that Russia must be viewed with caution," said the Minister. "No one here is saying that we will increase our exports. We are concerned about stability in supply and not getting carried away," he stressed. According to Geller, the government is trying to show that there is quality in the production of meat and an opportunity to expand.
