Largest dairies increase milk volume by 9.6% in 2013

Milk collection by the top 12 dairies in Brazil last year increased by 9.6% on 2012, reaching 8.138 billion liters. In addition to the increased consumption of milk, it reflects the very high growth in domestic milk production and the investments made by companies in new categories, and acquisitions. In the previous survey, when companies faced low profitability, the advance was only 1.6%.

The president of the segment's representative association, Jorge Rubez, notes that 2013 was a year of increased milk production and consumption, which explains the higher uptake by dairies. According to the IBGE, inspected milk production in 2013 increased by 5.5%, to 23.55 billion liters. He says that this increase was down to more formally documented production, stimulated by higher prices in 2013.
