Three major importers ban meat from Mato Gross because of BSE, says Marfrig
Egypt, Iran and Algeria have imposed restrictions on beef from Mato Grosso because of an atypical case of BSE, said the CEO of Marfrig, Sérgio Rial, on Monday.
Last week, Peru imposed a temporary, 180-day embargo on meat from Brazil. Egypt, Iran and Algeria were, respectively, the fourth, sixth and ninth largest importers of fresh beef from Brazil in 2013.
The OIE's reference laboratory has confirmed a case of BSE in Mato Grosso is atypical, says the Ministry of Agriculture.
