Russia bans pork imports from Europe
Russia has banned imports of pork from throughout the European Union, due to outbreaks of African swine fever in some European countries. Russia may now increase its imports from Brazil and the USA.
The ban came into force on February 6. According to the official representative of Rosselkhoznadzor, Aleksei Alekseenko, the ban will affect both raw material and derivatives. However, products that have gone through extensive heat treatment and are guaranteed by official bodies in the European Union will be allowed.
