Marfrig shuts down two plants in Argentina
Marfrig has shut down its beef plant in Hughes, in the province of Santa Fé, the Argentine press reported yesterday. The 500 employees at the unit have been put on paid leave, by why they will not work for two months and will get 70% of their salaries. The Marfrig unit in Unquillo, in the province of Córdoba, where another 500 people work, has also been shut down. In Brazil, Marfrig's press office would not comment.
The Argentine press says Marfrig has claimed financial reasons, a lack of slaughter and a lack of 'business predictability' in the country as reasons for suspending its operations in Hughes.
