Russia wants to reduce meat imports
After a long period of state investment in the modernization of meat production, Russia wants to reduce imports.
Pork imports are to fall to 20% of domestic supply by 2016, from 27% last year. The government is said to have invested at least US$ 20 billion in the sector in the last decade.
The country, which uses various kinds of barriers to curb imports of Brazilian beef, may further reduce imports in the coming years.
