Russia stops meat derivative imports from Australia

On Monday, Russia stopped importing beef derivatives from Australia because of the use of steroids considered unsafe by Moscow.
Australia is the world’s third-biggest beef exporter, after the USA and Brazil, exporting 30,000 tons of beef to Russia in 2013. The Interfax news agency has reported that Australia exported 13,000 tons of beef sub-products to former Soviet countries in the first ten months of last year – most to Russia – worth US$ 22.3 million.
Rosselkhoznadzor says the ban follows the discovery of trembolone in several loads of Australian beef sup-products.
