BRF and JBS dominate exports
Brazil's chicken exports are dominated by two companies, according to a report released yesterday by the Brazilian Poultry Farming Association (Ubabef).BRF and JBS accounted for about 70% of the country's exports in 2013 in volume terms.
Brazil's largest chicken processor, BRF accounted for 45.8% of Brazil's exports of the product last year, according to Ubabef.JBS was the second-biggest chicken meat exporter in the period, with a 23.8% share of sales. JBS's figures include Seara Brasil, acquired in 2013 from Marfrig.With a more modest share, Santa Catarina's cooperative Aurora accounted for 3.5% of exports, while US company Tyson Foods accounted for 2.3%.
In total, Brazil exported 3.89 million tons of chicken meat last year, down by 0.7% on 2012, according to Foreign Trade Office (Secex) data compiled by the Ministry of Agriculture.
