Chicken production up in Russia

Russia, which Brazil once exported nearly 300,000 tons of chicken meat to, is close to achieving self-sufficiency in the sector. According to data from the Federal Statistics Service in Russia, cited by the trade publication World Poultry, the country will be able to meet 96% of demand with its own production later at the end of this year, a record high for the industry.

Chicken production in Russia from January to September this year totaled 3.7 million tons, 213,000 tons - or 6.1% - more than the same period in 2012. Preliminary data indicate that production should reach 4.9 million tons by the end of the year.
