Cattle slaughter up by 11.7% to record level in second quarter
In the second quarter of this year Brazil slaughtered 8.5 million head of cattle, up by 11.7% on the same period last year, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This is a record for any quarter.
According to the IBGE, Mato Grosso state is still the leader in the country. In the second quarter, it slaughtered 1.4 million head, up by 16.3% on the same period last year. Right behind Mato Grosso are Mato Grosso do Sul, with one million head, Goiás, with 923,000 head, and São Paulo, with 871,000 head.
