January to August pork export revenue down by 4.4%
In the year to August, Brazil earned US$ 889.2 million from pork exports, down by 4.4% on the US$ 930.1 million earned in the same period of 2012. Volume fell by 6.66%, to 343,200 tons. The main destination buyer of Brazilian pork in the period was Russia, which spent US$ 278.8 million on 94,900 tons of meat. Russia thus accounted for 31.36% of revenue and 27.6% of volume exported by Brazil.
The second-biggest market was Hong Kong. The Chinese city-state imported 81,200 tons of pork from Brazil between January and August, accounting for 23.6% of total pork exports by Brazil. In revenue terms, Hong Kong accounted for 22.1% of total exports, spending US$ 196.6 million. The data are from the Foreign Trade Office (Secex) compiled by the Brazilian Association of Pork Producers and Exporters (Abipecs).
