Marfrig files loss in the quarter
Marfrig Alimentos, one of the largest meat processors in Brazil, filed a net loss of R$ 419.9 million in the second quarter, compared with a profit of R$ 15.4 million in the same period last year. Net income totaled R$ 4.455 billion, up by 9.4% compared with the R$ 4.071 billion filed in the second quarter of 2012.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) in the second quarter totaled R$ 739.7 million, up by 3.5% on the R$ 714 million filed in same period last year. The EBITDA margin fell from 17.6% in the second quarter of last year to 16.6% in the quarter ended in March this year. At the end of the second quarter, net debt totaled R$ 8.7 billion. The company's leverage ratio - the ratio between net debt and EBITDA - was 3.8 times.
