Meat: Chicken prices up more than beef and pork, says FAO

Up to April 2013, the most recent data available from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on meat prices on the international market, beef and pork prices had remained relatively stable, while chicken had gone up continuously, especially in recent months.

In the year - meaning compared to the average price in December 2012) - the beef and pork prices actually fell slightly - by 0.8% and 0.4%, respectively. Chicken meat rose by 6.5% up to April. Chicken remains the cheapest of the three meats, but the gap between it and beef and pork has been gradually shrinking.
