Chicken: Price up 1.8% in a year
Chicken prices rose only slightly up to July this year compared with the same period in 2012. The nominal price of whole chilled chicken on the wholesale market in Greater São Paulo is 8.2% higher, but in real terms, the increase since last year is only 1.8%. According to researchers at the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), competing meats, beef and pork, increased in real terms by much more in the same period - 4.8% and 16.7%, respectively. After reaching record levels in the second half of last year, as a result of lower supply, prices of chicken meat on the wholesale market in Greater São Paulo this week returned to a level closer to that observed in mid-2012, before the rises began. Supply is much larger this year, bringing down prices.
