Hogs: sector expects recovery in exports this half of the year
Brazil's pork market is geared to exports, as domestic demand has not shown consistent signs of recovery. Experts consulted by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) have faith in the resumption of exports to Ukraine and Russia, and exports that have begun to Japan. However, to at least repeat the same performance as last year, considering only fresh pork, in the second half of the year exports will have to be 46% up on the first half, reaching 296,000 tons. Cepea researchers warn that this will not be easy, but the resumption of sales to Ukraine in July, the possible authorization of more plants to export to Russia (a Russian mission was in the country recently to evaluate them) and trade with Japan may be enough.
