Aurora forced to modify production by truckers' strike
Coopercentral Aurora Alimentos, based in Chapecó (Santa Catarina state), will halt or reduce production at five units as of tomorrow, because of the truckers' strike in various regions of the country. At least 2,000 workers at Aurora will be excused from work on Tuesday.
According to a statement from Aurora, "The trucks carrying feed for farms and trucks transporting poultry, pork and fresh milk, collecting from more than 5,000 farms, are being held back by dozens of barriers put up by the strikers." Hence, the plants are not getting raw material to process.
The company reports that the distribution of feed to 20 million birds and 800,000 pigs in the field has been hampered and hundreds of farmers only have feed that is in their silos to feed the animals with.
