Egypt to lift ban on beef from Paraná in July
The head of the Veterinary Quarantine Department at the Ministry of Agriculture in Egypt, Youssef Mandouh Shalby, has indicated the country will lift its ban on beef produced in the state of Paraná in July, according to a statement released by the Arab-Brazil Chamber of Commerce.
If confirmed, this will end a ban that has lasted for six months. Egypt suspended purchases of beef from Paraná in December last year, due to confirmation of a case of non-classical BSE in the state.
Although good news, this will not have a major impact on Brazil's exports. Although Egypt is sixth-largest importer of beef from Brazil, Paraná is a small supplier.
