Chicken exports in May - increased volume, but revenue falls slightly

Fresh chicken meat exports in May 2013 were not far off what had been predicted before the closing of the month. They totaled 313,281 tons, up by almost 2% on the previous month. But they were more than 7% down on May 2012's record 338,399 tons.

The average price - which has been increasing since February and 16.67% up on May 2012 - fell by 2.68% in the month. The end result was a slight decrease, of 0.82%, on the month before and an increase of just over 8% on May last year.

The volume shipped in the year so far is 5.43% down on January-May 2012. Export revenue is up by just over 8%, thanks to a 14% increase in the average price.
