Cobb-Vantress plans investment to grow in Brazil
Cobb-Vantress, a poultry genetics company controlled by US multinational Tyson Foods, has promised to invest US$ 6 million in Brazil in the financial year 2013/14 (October-September) to expand production of breeding stock for export, the company's director-general in South America, Jairo Arenázio, has told Valor newspaper.
The funds will be used to increase housing capacity at its two great-grandparent breeder farms, in the municipalities of Itapagipe (Minas Gerais state) and Paulo de Faria (São Paulo state), by 30%. The two units are currently able to house 1.2 million birds, but this will jump to 1.5 million with the expansion. Great-grandparent breeder farms produce grandparents.
With the investment, Cobb-Vantress will take another step in its strategy to transform Brazil into a platform for exports of poultry genetics to Latin America. Last year, the company invested R$ 35 million in a grandparent farm, also in Itapagipe.
