Mexico may import poultry from Brazil

The Mexican government and importers have contacted Brazil about importing chicken and eggs. In the case of chicken, the volume is expected to total 300,000 tons, to be supplied by Brazilin and other countries.
“It is excellent news. We have tried to open the Mexican market up before, but came up against high import tariffs and the free trade agreement it has with the USA,” says Francisco Turra, the president of the Brazilian Poultry Farming Association (UBABEF).
UBABEF estimates the Mexican market could be worth about US$ 300 million in chicken alone, based on the average domestic price for whole chicken and cuts.
