US chicken exports achieve best results in 17 months
US chicken exports ended the first quarter of 2013 with their highest volume in the last 17 months. According to the USDA, in March the poultry industry exported 295,300 tons of chicken, up by nearly 9.5% on March 2012 and over 10.5% on the previous month, February 2013.
With this result, the year-to-date volume (which in the first two months of 2013 had been negative) was positive again, but only slightly so, at 1.28% up on the first quarter of 2012. It is a similar increase in volume achieved in the 12 months ending in March 2013, at 1.69%.
