Marfrig makes net loss of R$ 81.2 million in the first quarter
Marfrig Alimentos has filed a net loss of R$ 81.2 million in the first quarter of this year, compared with a net profit of R$ 34.5 million in the same period last year. Between January and March net revenue totaled R$ 6.422 billion, up by 28.3% on the R$ 5.006 billion filed in the first three months of 2012.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) reached R$ 491.1 million in the first quarter of 2013, up by 19.6% on the same period last year. The EBITDA margin fell from 8.2% in the first quarter of 2012 to 7.6% in the quarter ending in March this year. In the first quarter of this year, Marfrig's leverage ratio (the ratio of net debt to EBITDA) was 4.4 times. The company's gross debt totaled R$ 12.9 billion at the end of March.
