Biodiesel producer buys chickens slaughterhouse in South

Erasmo Carlos Battistella - owner of BSBios and president of the Association of Biodiesel Producers in Brazil (Aprobio) - continues to expand he agribusiness interests. Two months after buying Coxilha fertilisers, which processes soybeans, Battistella has just bought the slaughterhouse Frinal, in Garibaldi, in the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul state.

With a 40-year history, it currently slaughters 88,000 chickens a day. Of these, 60% are sold to the domestic market and 40% exported. The new management plans, in the second half of the year, to have two shifts, by the end of the year slaughtering 160,000 birds a day. It has 845 employees, but this workforce is expected to rise to 1,085 people in the coming months due to the demand to come. In 2012 Frinal earned R$ 138 million. This year it is expected to earn R$ 210 million, taking into account the start of the second shift in July.
