Two months after buying Coxilha fertilisers, which processes soybeans, Battistella has just bought the slaughterhouse Frinal, in Garibaldi, in the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul state.
With a 40-year history, it currently slaughters 88,000 chickens a day. Of these, 60% are sold to the domestic market and 40% exported. The new management plans, in the second half of the year, to have two shifts, by the end of the year slaughtering 160,000 birds a day. It has 845 employees, but this workforce is expected to rise to 1,085 people in the coming months due to the demand to come. In 2012 Frinal earned R$ 138 million. This year it is expected to earn R$ 210 million, taking into account the start of the second shift in July.
