OIE suggests changing in US status for BSE
The OIE has proposed changing the USA's status for its risk of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), also known as mad cow disease. According to the OIE's recommendation, the USA's status should change from "controlled risk" to "insignificant risk." the best of the three existing categories, the USDA said on Wednesday, February 20.
The 178 member-countries of the OIE have to approve the recommendation in a vote scheduled for May, said US Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack.
