Mexico suffers bird flu outbreak

Mexico will cull 486,000 chickens after an outbreak of bird flu in the central state of Guanajuato, officials have said.

Chicken farming company Bachoco has reported a possible case of the H7N3 bird flu virus on five farms, and this has been confirmed by officials at the Ministry of Agriculture.

The authorities have launched preventive measures against the disease, such as tests on nearby farms to verify that the outbreak has not spread.
