Argentina exports lowest volume of beef since 2001
Argentine beef exports last year fell to their lowest in 11 years, at 212,000 tons, worth US$ 1.28 billion. The data is from private information, based on data compiled by the IPCVA (an institute that promotes beef from Argentina). World leaders in beef exports in the past, teh Argentines have recently suffered the effects of a severe drought in the country and disastrous government interference to control prices and inflation.
The drought forced farmers to slaughter more cows. This slaughter will inhibit growth of the herd in the coming years.
Moreover, the costs and prices in livestock farming are much worse than those for agriculture, which is more profitable.
