Beef sales not impacted by BSE
Brazilian exports of fresh beef have not been impacted by the ban on imports by some countries after an atypical case of BSE reported in the country. Brazil's beef exports totaled 54,000 tons in the first three weeks of this month. At the current rate, exports are expected to reach 90,000 tons by the end of the month.
If confirmed, this volume will exceed exports in January last year by 45% and by 8% on last December, according to data released yesterday by the Foreign Trade Office (Secex).
Most countries that have imposed a total ban on Brazilian beef do not import fresh beef and are not significant buyers of processed products. This is the case for South Korea and Japan.
