Live cattle exports from Brazil up 26%
Exports of live cattle earned US$ 593.85 million in 2012, up by 33.5% on 2011, when revenue was US$ 444.85 million. According to the Cattle Exporters Association (Abeg) 512,320 head were exported in 2012, 26.5% up on 2011, when 404,850 animals were exported.
The result was achieved due to the readjustment of meat prices in Venezuela, the main buyer of live cattle from Brazil, and the appreciation of the dollar, said the president of Abeg, Daniel Freire. Venezuela accounted for 80% of purchases in 2012.
