Beef cattle production costs to remain high in 2013, says the CNA
The president of the beef industry chamber, Antenor Nogueira, said on Tuesday, November 4, that production costs for beef cattle will remain under upward pressure until the middle of next year. He says there is no prospect in the short-term of a reduction in input prices, which have soared because of rising grain prices, in turn caused by the harvest collapse in the USA.
Nogueira, who also chairs the National Permanent Forum on Cattle Farming at Brazil’s Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock Farming (CNA), said that the rising costs of livestock farming have interrupted the rebuilding of the herd in recent years, because farmers who are under-capitalized have been forced to dispose of cattle to cover themselves and stay in business.
