Commission approves slaughterhouse worker safety standard

The slaughterhouse industry is to get a specific standard for workers' health and safety as of 2013. After two years of discussion, the tripartite commission formed by the Ministry of Labor, and representatives of workers and companies in the industry, has adopted what is known as a Regulatory Norm (NR), which establishes the rules for working in slaughterhouses. The Norm now goes to the Minister of Labor, Leonel Brizola Neto, for approval. Among the main points in the NR is the establishment of 'ergonomic and thermal comfort' breaks for workers in artificially cold environments.
