Northeast sets out FMD vaccination strategies

The Official Veterinary Services (SVOs) in Paraíba and Piauí have suspended the second stage of FMD vaccination for cattle until the end of December. The decision was made based on the a technical report by the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA), which relaxed the vaccination schedule in the Northeast states which have areas that have been badly affected by drought. In early January the situation will be reassessed in those two states, and the strategy to be adopted will be set out.

The municipalities in the wild lands and backlands of Pernambuco will also interrupt vaccination until December and will notify MAPA in January about the situation. In the forest region, cattle will be vaccinated in November, according to the official schedule.
