Pork export revenue up 10% in August
August was good for Brazil's pork exports. According to the Brazilian Association of Pork Farmers and Exporters (Abipecs), in a report released on September 11, export revenue for the sector totaled US$ 134.42 million, up by 10.10% on the same month in 2011. Volume was up by 19.24%, to 54,710 tons. This is the best month in sales volume in 2012 and the second-best in revenue.
From January to August, however, revenue was down by 2.2% compared with the same period last year, with a total of US$ 930 million. By volume, there was an increase of 5.42%, to 367,740 tons. In August, Russia was the main buyer of Brazilian pork, accounting for 26.03% of exports in volume and 28.35% of revenues. Brazil sold the Russians 14,240 tons, for US$ 38.10 million, up by 387.43% in volume and 327.57% in revenue on August 2011.
Brazil sold 3,580 tons of pork to Argentina last month, up by 6.64% on the same month last year. For the year so far, Ukraine ranks first among buyers, with 22.63% of exports, or 83,200 tons. Second is Hong Kong, with 82,700 tons, followed by Russia, with 81,800 tons.
